Spirited and intelligent orphan Judy wins the heart of a kindly elder gentleman she has never seen and sends him letters to update him on her progress at the exclusive women’s college he is paying for. There, she meets, and is puzzled by, her close friend’s handsome uncle. Written epistolary style with verve, humour and cleverness, it is easy to see why “Daddy-Long-Legs” fell for Judy; you will, too!
N.B. The 1955 film version, starring Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron, is perfectly fine, but not a patch on the book.
