In the 1970s, American novelist Mary Deasy turned her hand to the Regency, with varying degrees of success. Her greatest accomplishment in the field (of her twelve attempts) is without a doubt Cecily, or A Young Lady of Fashion, the story of an impecunious young lady’s attempts at gainful employment, and her self-apppointed guardian’s growing displeasure at her willfulness. A fun romp.
