Illustrations from “A Proposal to Cicely” — The Happy Mag (1922)

The first short story (we know of) published by Georgette Heyer, “A Proposal to Cicely” gives us the charmingly independent Cicely and her distant cousin Richard, who is desperate to marry her.

Cicely, bored with town life, and, it would seem, Richard, runs away to the country, where she befriends a local farmer, who misunderstands her friendliness.
