There is a tendency among Russian Heyer cover artists to attempt to imply a bodice ripper-ness to proceedings that simply does not exist. This is one of the more egregious examples, in which we presumably witness a surprisingly buff Rule ravishing his young bride, who for some reason has hair akin to Rapunzel’s. When you learn that the literal translation of the title given to this book is Forbidden Desires… well, one can only feel sorry for the Russian readers lured into the novel under false pretences. (But happy for them, that they discovered Georgette Heyer, anyway.) F
