Name: Sarah Harvey
Nationality: Australian (originally English)
How old were you when you read your first Georgette Heyer novel?
Probably about 10.
What was it?
These Old Shades.
How did you discover her work?
My mother gave me These Old Shades and I couldn’t put it down. I remember one day I left it at school in Hong Kong where we lived. I had been reading it under the desk, and I remember how terrified I was that maybe the book had disappeared and what would my mother say? It was there next day and my mother never found out! Now my daughters read the books and love them.
Did Heyer lead you to read other authors in similar genres?
Not really, nothing compared. Barbara Cartland just doesn’t compare.
Which of her books have you read the most often?
Probably These Old Shades, The Talisman Ring, The Masqueraders.
Which, if any, would you never read again?
April Lady, and several of the other later books.
If you could be a Heyer heroine, which would you choose?
Frederica.
Which Heyer hero (or heroine) would make the best husband/wife/partner?
Alverstoke.
How has Georgette Heyer influenced your life?
I loved the French in These old Shades, so I moved to France when i was 18. A bit of a shock!
