Nationality: Australian
How old were you when you read your first Georgette Heyer novel?
14 or 15.
What was it?
I don’t remember which one, may have been Regency Buck as it is falling apart.
How did you discover her work?
Introduced by a neighbour. I bought every one I could and still have some of the originals, very tattered and worn, now replaced with newer copies. Loved An Infamous Army but my stand out favourite is The Talisman Ring.
Did Heyer lead you to read other authors in similar genres?
Georgette influenced me to read Jane Austen and other authors from the period. I was reading a Georgette under my desk in English class when caught by the Deputy Head. He commented that he was glad that I was reading something decent and subsequently lent me his copy of Vanity Fair to read. I have never caught a bus in my life without having a Georgette to read on the journey.
Which of her books have you read the most often?
I’ve probably read A Talisman Ring most often but pick them up randomly to re-read.
Which, if any, would you never read again?
Not so fond of My Lord John. Cousin Kate is not a favourite either, too Gothic for my taste.
If you could be a Heyer heroine, which would you choose?
I would be Sarah Thane if I could.
Which Heyer hero (or heroine) would make the best husband/wife/partner?
Freddy Standen would be the best husband, understanding, kind, and knows which clothes to wear!
How has Georgette Heyer influenced your life?
Whenever I have had a dark period in my life I have turned to Georgette and in some way reading her books seems to lighten the load, it is magical! I am now trying to educate my granddaughters.
